Welcome to the new Web 2.0 portal of the International Rice Functional Genomics Consortium (IRFGC). You may visit us as a guest anytime, but if you are a serious member of the IRFGC community, we heartily recommend that you become a registered user. If you feel really ambitious, please contact us to upgrade your simple registration to a higher level of privilege with which you can contribute/review documents, news and other niceties to the community as a web site Author, Editor and even...gulp... a Publisher! We'll teach you the ropes... just contact us (use the link in the side bar menu to send us email...).
An Interim Steering Committee (ISC) coordinated by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and representing 18 institutions from 10 countries and two international agricultural research centers has now been formed to manage an International Rice Functional Genomics Consortium (IRFGC). The proposed mandate of the IRFGC is to coordinate research in the post-sequencing "functional genomics" era by exploring ways to consolidate international rice functional genomics resources and to build common strategies. At the founding meeting of the Consortium, members of the ISC proposed that the IRFGC embrace the following goals: | 1. | Represent and articulate the overall interest and vision of the community Achieve greater efficiency in assigning functions to all important rice genes | | 2. | Facilitate communication and exchange of rice functional genomics data | | 3. | Define collective goals: - Share materials
- Integrate databases
- Seek bilateral or multilateral partnerships
- Implement initiatives for the cooperative elucidation of gene function
- Accelerate delivery of research results to benefit rice production
| | 4. | Bring leverage to initiatives submitted to respective governmental or international funding agencies |
During the meeting, the ISC also set up five subcommittees to initiate more detailed planning and to encourage broader participation by the rice research community, along the following themes: - Organization
- Mutants
- Gene expression
- Gene function verification
- Bioinformatics
